About Karla

Hey there! I am a Senior, at Texas State University, majoring in Marketing with a minor in Mass Communications.

Coming from a Hispanic household as a First-Gen, I had to pave my own way to becoming who I am through curiosity. Even at the age of 24, I am curious and always open to learning something new.

As a first generation student, I had to figure out the process to attend college and apply for FAFSA on my own; I even inspired my older brother to enroll as well. I attended a year at Austin Community College - Round Rock Campus before transferring to Texas State University in the Summer of 2020.

This past year, I’ve had the privilege of expanding on both my marketing and leadership skills through AMA and working with the McCoy College Student Success Center.

Due to my involvement in the Student Business Council, I was able to connect and learn from the Success Center. I worked closely with the Director of the Student Success Center to develop strategies to increase student engagement within the McCoy College of Business.

I strongly believe in being a people-first leader and have been applying these practices in my term as AMA President 2024-2025. During my term, I mentored two Vice Presidents who manage a set of six committees each with their assigned Directors. I enjoy working with these Directors as they are able to experiment and develop to their best selves for their future careers as Business Professionals. With this in mind, we set our annual theme to “Building Success Together.”
